Nazareth/Easton YMCA Swim Team (NEYS)

Team Captains Selected: Tuesday, Nov. 11

• If your swimmer is interested in being a captain, please let me know, or have them inform the coaches. * See minimum qualifications & responsibilities below.
• Four captains will be selected.
• Coaches select one male, one female captain.
• Swimmers vote for one male, one female.
• Only MC & A groups, ages 11-21, are eligible to vote.
• Two captains will be voted in by eligible team members, two will be chosen by coaches.
• Captains give speeches at MC & A group sessions.
• Previously selected captains are not guaranteed to maintain the position each season. They must be either selected by coaches or voted by teammates anew each year.

Captains’ Responsibilities

1. Relay team concerns to the coaches.
2. Assist in maintaining team morale, such as leading cheers.
3. Assign meet and practice set-up/tear down activities to swimmers in a fair and consistent manner (lane lines, backstroke flags, timing devices, deck & pool debris clean up, chairs, tables, kickboards, etc.). Although parents mostly do this in meets, captains will still need to attend to them in practice and assist during meets.
4. Implement the coaches’ directives.
5. MUST attend at least 2 dual meets.
6. Attend practice at least once per week in some capacity. It can be for practice, or if just coming from high school practice, assist the coaches at the YMCA. See Coach Drake for options or if you have questions about practice attendance.
7. MUST be willing to attend a post season championship meet. A captain does not have to go to all of them nor every champ meet session, but if they qualify they must be willing to attend at least one post season champ meet.
8. Maintain positive working relationships with parent volunteers and assist when necessary.
9. Always set a good example in their actions on and off the deck, in and out of the pool.
10. Ensure team values are reinforced, implemented, and propagated consistently to team members when swimmers are not near coaches.
11. Provide support to our younger swimmers, inspire our older swimmers.

Captains’ Minimum Qualifications

1. At least 15 years of age by December 1st (age up date for the league).
2. 13/14 year olds will be considered if not enough 15/over swimmers.
3. At least 1 year on the Nazareth/Easton YMCA Swim team.
4. Be willing to abide by all Captains’ responsibilities (see above).
5. Demonstrated maturity as deemed by the coaches.
6. Previously selected captains are not guaranteed to maintain the position each season. They must be either selected by coaches or voted by teammates anew each year.
