Yes, please tell your swimmer they read that right, we have light workouts planned while at Nationals. Not doing any training for a whole week only serves to hurt a swimmer, especially if one expects to perform at a high level on Friday. However, the training is about maintaining, so they are light, fast, and low yardage.
At this level and beyond, actually even starting at Districts & States, swimmers need to view swimming with a professional approach, not an age group approach. It's about meet management over multiple days and competing in multiple races (keeping feel of the water, keeping racing skills sharp, managing emotions, eating properly, and sleeping appropriately). Of course, those are always important anyway, but to go back-to-back-to-back in big meets, over multiple days each, requires a more disciplined approach than an age group "one and done" race mentality.
See you on deck,
Coach Drake
