NEYS End-Of-Season: General Info
Good afternoon Bluefins family,
- Non-Qualifiers: Practice ends on February 3rd, no additional fees.
- CHMC Qualifiers (Feb. 3 - Feb. 25): $20/swimmer.
- Post CHMC qualifiers (Feb. 26 - April 7): Additional $15/swimmer.
Example 1: If a swimmer only qualifies for CHMC and their season ends with that meet, they pay a total of $20.
Example 2: If a swimmer qualifies for Districts or beyond, they pay $35 total ($20 + $15).
Our regular season ends on Feb. 5 this year, and the extended season begins on Feb. 6th. Normally, the regular season ends with Madison Championships, but it's usually held in early February. This season though, there was only one bid put in to host it, and it worked better for their facility schedule to hold it much earlier, Jan. 21/22. Since our regular season fees ($325 - $390) usually cover up to early/mid February, which is the normal MadChamps date, we decided to allow NEYS swimmers continue to practice at their regular times up to February 3rd regardless if they qualified for the extended season championship meets (CHMC/Districts/States/Nationals). Plus, if anyone is planning to swim at the PennDel Long Distance Meet on February 5th, they can continue to train until that date.
FAQs
- End of season awards dinner? Yes, we hold an end-of-season awards dinner in April. Kevin Rizzardi will send an email with details in early March.
- Extended season change in training groups/times? Often we need to modify training groups (swimmers & start times) for the extended season. However, I'll send an email with those details in a couple of weeks.
- Spring sessions? Yes, we offer several Spring sessions, each with a different focus and ability group in mind held in April and May.
- After Spring? We recommend joining one of the Summer swim teams in this region. I'll send details about the summer teams NEYS coaches run, and some more info on other teams too in March.
- Should I keep swimming on my own? We recommend everyone take about one month off between seasons. So, if you finish in February, take March off, start with Spring sessions, especially if not in a Spring sport. If you finish in March, take April off and start with a summer swim team in May/June, especially if you don't have a spring sport. However, like in the Fall, you can do both swimming and another sport in Spring/Summer if your schedule permits and if you really want to. Otherwise, yes, if you know it will be several months between swimming seasons for you, do some light laps on your own to stay in touch with the water.
See you on deck,
Coach Drake
