    NEYS Water Temperature & Practice

    Good evening,

Obviously, there has been a delay in getting the water heater delivered and installed. I've been putting pressure on the YMCA admin, and they have assured me they have been in constant contact with the supplier/installer for it. The fix requires a new heater and they have explored other temporary options that did not come to fruition, or at least none that would not include doubling the price of what was contracted for initially. As of today, there is still no new estimated install date. As a result, as a team we are instituting the following:

    1. Take the water temp each day with our own thermometer to get an accurate temperature at the start of our practices at 5:00 pm.
    2. As we do with our outdoor summer teams in early June, we will start instituting warm-up periods during practice (swimmers should bring their towels, sweatshirts, and whatever will warm them quickly, onto the pool deck with them), mix in dryland on the pool deck, and/or cut practices short.
    3. We are exploring options with other YMCAs in the area for use of their pools too. Although we are the Greater Valley YMCA for regional organizational purposes, each branch's pool scheduling, lifeguard hours, and vision for which programs they support and to what "degree" (pun intended... :)  ), vary from YMCA to YMCA.

Hopefully, we will see progress soon,

    Coach Drake
